The Problem We Set Out to Solve

We started Troverve because we were frustrated. As frequent online buyers in Nepal, we had experienced firsthand what millions of Nepalis experience every week: products that look nothing like their listings, sellers who disappear after payment, no recourse when something goes wrong, and a general sense that online shopping in Nepal requires you to accept more risk than it should.

We'd also talked with dozens of small sellers — artisans, resellers, micro-entrepreneurs — who knew they had great products but couldn't figure out how to build trust with buyers online. They were competing against sellers with better marketing budgets and worse products, and losing, because the platforms they used had no infrastructure for genuine quality to differentiate itself.

The frustration on both sides of the transaction pointed to the same root cause: the platforms mediating Nepal's online commerce had been designed for other markets, adapted imperfectly for Nepal, and had never prioritised the trust infrastructure that Nepal's specific market conditions demand. We decided to build that infrastructure from the ground up.

Our Vision for Nepal's Online Commerce

Troverve's vision is straightforward: Nepal's buyers and sellers deserve a platform that works as hard for their interests as they work for each other. That means video-first listings that show the real product. It means escrow-protected payments so neither party is exposed to advance payment risk. It means a community reputation system that makes honest sellers visible and holds bad actors accountable. And it means a platform designed for Nepal's mobile-first, socially-connected population — not adapted from a template built for a completely different market.

We believe social commerce — the fusion of social discovery and transactional trust — is the natural evolution of how Nepalis will shop online. The infrastructure for this was not available in Nepal. We're building it.

What Makes Troverve Different

Video-First Listings

On Troverve, the default listing format is a short video shot by the seller. This single design decision changes everything. Buyers can see the actual product — its real colour, real size, real condition, real quality of craftsmanship. Sellers who make compelling videos of genuine products will naturally outperform those who can't. The platform rewards authenticity because video makes authenticity visible.

Escrow-Protected Payments

Every transaction on Troverve is escrow-protected. Buyers pay through the platform; the funds are held securely until the buyer confirms receipt. Sellers receive payment only after successful delivery. This eliminates the advance payment risk that has made Nepal's online marketplace feel like a gamble. It also removes the friction of negotiating payment terms between strangers — the platform handles it, and both parties are protected by default.

Community Reviews and Reputation

Troverve's review system is tied to verified purchases. You can only review a seller after a completed transaction, which means the review record reflects real buying experiences rather than manufactured ratings. Sellers build a reputation that genuinely reflects their service quality. Buyers can trust the review data they use to make decisions. This creates a virtuous cycle: honest sellers attract more buyers, build more reviews, and become more visible.

Built for Nepal's Infrastructure

Troverve is designed for Nepal's connectivity realities — fast on 4G networks, lightweight for lower-end smartphones, and integrated with the payment methods Nepalis actually use. The interface works in the code-switching environment of Nepali-English communication that characterises how most Nepalis communicate online. We didn't take a platform designed for Seoul or Jakarta and try to make it work for Kathmandu — we built for Kathmandu first.

Who Troverve Is Built For

Troverve is built for Nepal's micro-entrepreneurs: the artisan selling handwoven textiles from Bhaktapur, the reseller curating second-hand fashion in Kathmandu, the farmer in Dhading with organic vegetables to sell, the young entrepreneur importing Korean skincare products. These are people with genuine value to offer and products that deserve to be seen — but who have been underserved by platforms built for large formal retailers.

It's also built for Nepal's buyers: people who want the convenience of online shopping without the risk. Who want to see products before they commit. Who want to know that their payment is protected and that they have recourse if something goes wrong. Who want to discover interesting new sellers and products, not just search for the cheapest listing of a commodity item.

Early Traction and Our Waitlist

Since announcing Troverve, the response from Nepal's entrepreneurial and online shopping community has been genuinely exciting. Our waitlist has grown steadily, and the sellers who've reached out to us represent exactly the kind of quality micro-entrepreneurs we built the platform for — people with real products and the motivation to build real businesses. The buyer feedback we've gathered has consistently confirmed the trust deficit we set out to solve and the appetite for a platform that addresses it.

We're building this with the community, not just for it. Waitlist members receive early access, are consulted on features, and will have the opportunity to participate in the beta program before general launch. Their feedback is shaping the platform in real time.

What's Coming: Our Feature Roadmap

Our immediate focus is launching the core marketplace experience: video listings, escrow payments, community reviews, and seller profiles. These are the foundation, and we won't rush them. After a stable core, we'll introduce livestream commerce — real-time video selling sessions where sellers can engage with buyers directly, answer questions live, and create the kind of social shopping event that has proven enormously successful in Southeast Asia.

We're also working on vernacular support — full Nepali language interface and the ability to list in Nepali, which will bring a huge segment of potential sellers and buyers who are currently excluded by the English-dominant nature of most e-commerce platforms. Logistics integration with Nepal's major courier networks, in-app delivery tracking, and seller analytics tools are all on the roadmap for 2025.
